Day 1 Arrive in Cairo
Arrive in Egypt's buzzing capital city today where you will be met at the airport and privately transferred to your hotel. The Four Seasons Nile Plaza is the perfect base to recover from your journey with its prime location in the Garden City neighbourhood of Cairo, and its fabulous rooftop pool. Settle into your Nile View Room and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2 The Pyramids, Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum
After breakfast at your hotel, you will be met by your private guide and driven out to Giza for a comprehensive tour of mighty Pyramids. Marvel at their breathtaking scale and their intriguing history as you explore with an Egyptologist, also taking time to view the magnificent Sphinx. Round off your explorations with a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum, which houses over 100,000 highly significant artefacts.

Day 3 Islamic and Coptic Cairo, then on to Luxor
Today you will venture into the heart of Cairo with your private guide, discovering the Coptic heritage of the city and its historic churches. You will also explore Islamic Cairo, taking in sights such the majestic Mosque of Sultan Hassan. Later this afternoon you will fly to Luxor where you will be transferred to your comfortable hotel on the banks of the Nile.
Option : Extend your time in Cairo by a day to visit Saqqara, the Step Pyramid of Dashur and the Tomb of Merriruca.

Day 4 Howard Carter's house, Luxor and Karnak Temples
This morning you will pay a visit to the fascinating Luxor home of Howard Carter, the British archaeologist who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922. The mud-brick house features an intriguing collection of maps, photographs, excavation tools and writings, and an exact replica of Tutankhamun's burial chamber can be found in the garden. At the end of your visit you will be transferred to the dock in time for embarkation of the elegant Historia Nile cruise vessel. After a delicious first lunch onboard, you will set out to visit the spectacular temples at Luxor and Karnak - some of the best-preserved and most impressive sites of ancient Egypt. Return to the Historia for a cocktail reception and welcome dinner.

Day 5 Second day on the Nile - Valley of the Kings
After breakfast onboard the Historia you will disembark to visit the Valley of the Kings, located on the Nile's West Bank. Here you will find the burial sites of the high nobility of the ancient world, as well as the tombs of pharaohs such as Tutankhamun and Ramses II; your expert guide will bring the colourful tales of the elaborate burial preparations to life. You will also visit the Valley of the Queens, home to the mortuary temple of the only female pharaoh to rule ancient Egypt, Queen Hatshepsut.

Day 6 Third day on the Nile - Edfu and Kom Ombo
This morning you will set out to visit the Temple of Horus at Edfu. This exceptionally well-preserved Ptolemaic temple is one of the most impressive of all the riverside temples located between Luxor and Aswan and features striking decorative reliefs. After lunch back onboard the Historia you will disembark once more, this time to visit the curious twin temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to the gods of Sobek and Horus.

Day 7 Fourth day on the Nile - Philae Temple and Lord Kitchener's Island
Today the wonders of the Philae Temple await. Located on an island on Lake Nasser, this exquisite temple is dedicated to the Goddess Isis and houses various significant shrines and sanctuaries. Return to the Historia for lunch, after which you will disembark to board a traditional felucca for a sail around the flower-filled oasis of Lord Kitchener's Island, and the hilltop Mausoleum of the Aga Khan. Your final dinner onboard the Historia will be followed by evening entertainment.

Day 8 To Abu Simbel
Disembark the Historia after breakfast and transfer to Aswan airport for your flight to Abu Simbel. You will be met upon arrival by a private guide who will accompany you on a tour taking in the impressive rock-carved temple of King Ramses II. After some time to settle into your hotel, you will set out this evening to take in Abu Simbel's renowned Sound and Light show which traces the history of the region in mesmerising style.

Day 9 Aswan
This morning, take a flight back to Aswan where you will be met and driven to the iconic Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Hotel. This converted 19th-century palace on the banks of the Upper Nile is the perfect place to round off your Egyptian adventures. Enjoy some well-earned relaxation time by the outdoor pool, in the indulgent spa or over afternoon tea on the riverside terrace.
