Located amongst 2,500-hectares of pristine wilderness, Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is a melting pot of culture, biodiversity and natural wonder. Two lodges and two private villas are set amongst rolling hills of fynbos and milkwood, stretching down to the magnificent curve of Walker Bay. Carbon-negative Grootbos Forest Lodge is dominated by expansive windows and clean lines, with unforgettable 180° views of the ocean and fynbos. A meandering path leads through the milkwood forest to the individual guest suites, some with their own private pools. Each is filled with light from its floor to ceiling windows and decorated in a contemporary style, with beautiful views from the private wooden deck.
Explore the nature reserve on a botanical safari tour. 800 plant species have been recorded on the reserve and your guide will bring the fascinating story of fynbos and forest to life. Grootbos is perfectly positioned for seeking out the Marine Big 5, by joining an eco-friendly boat trip to observe Cape fur seals, Bottlenose dolphins, penguins, southern right whales and perhaps even a great white shark. Relax back at the lodge with a spa treatment, where buchu-scented beauty products are used to soothe and unwind, followed by a refreshing cocktail served by the pool.
The restaurant at Forest Lodge has a striking, contemporary design, where you can savour breakfast outside on the deck, or dine inside while marveling at the endless views. Ingredients are mostly organic, and many originate from the reserve, including honey, meat, eggs, herbs, vegetables and even spring water. Every plate is designed as a colourful work of art and comes with a carefully curated list of wines from the Grootbos cellar. For an extra special experience, dine outside by the burning embers of the boma or enjoy a sunset picnic on the beach.
