With almost thirty monasteries and temples strewn across its mountains and valleys, Bumthang is considered the spiritual centre of Bhutan. Located in the little town of Jakar, close to the grand Wandicholing Palace, 16-suite Amankora Bumthang combines authentic Bhutanese touches with modern comforts such as king-sized beds, deep-soaking bathtubs and wood-burning stoves. The restaurant overlooks a pretty courtyard and, on warm evenings, meals can be taken outside under the fruit trees. Treatments in the spa focus on soothing limbs after a day's trekking, and incorporate natural remedies and ingredients sourced from the surrounding valleys.
