KURAYADO IROHA RYOKAN

Set on Miyajima's pedestrianised shopping street and just a few minutes' walk from the Itsukushima Shinto Shrine, this modern ryokan elegantly combines Japanese and Western design elements. Extremely comfortable guest rooms offer views of either forest-clad Mount Misen or of the Seto Inland Sea. To take your ryokan experience to a more traditional level, rooms on the second floor feature authentic Japanese futon beds on the tatami mat floor.

The ryokan’s Kaiseki dinner is based around regional ingredients (including the freshest local seafood, the oysters for which the island is famed and seasonal vegetables from the Chugoku Mountains) and is served in the sea-facing Yoimosezu restaurant. At sunset, make a beeline for the open-air hot tub on the roof to enjoy the spectacle of nightfall over the Miyajima Strait.
