Central Vietnam is really laid back and often just a stop off for people en route from north to south (or vice versa) on a longer holiday. However, it is a great destination in its own right and a more relaxed alternative to trying to explore the whole country. Hoi An bustles, though retains its beautiful river village authenticity. There's plenty to do and see for a few days (cultural sightseeing, exploring market, cycling to nearby villages, Vietnamese cookery class). Bai San Ho is an idyllic beach hideaway on the coast of the less explored Phu Yen province. The two destinations combined makes a great, shorter, holiday with enough to do, but allowing time to chill out.
