Day 8 - 9 At Leisure in Ningaloo Reef
Two full days to enjoy this incredible camp. Wake to the song of the Butcher Bird or perhaps the thump of a wallaroo tail as he bounces by. The focus of your stay is the environment and on hand are a team of passionate guides to host snorkelling, kayaking and gorge walks in the Ranges.
At sunrise take a guided walk up Mandu Mandu gorge to spot an elusive Black-footed Rock Wallaby and learn of the region’s ancient geological and Aboriginal history. Experience whale shark snorkelling (April to July) and swimming with humpback whales (August to October). At high tide take gentle stroll up the beach, dodging Soldier Crabs, before drift snorkelling back along the inner edge of the reef. Or kayak out to the Blue Lagoon, a five metre deep natural aquarium where huge schools of fish, reef sharks and turtles swim amongst the coral formations. Ningaloo is a major breeding ground for Hawksbill, Loggerhead and Green Turtles which lay their eggs on the beach at night.
At sunset sit back on the dunes with a glass of chilled wine and watch the last rays of light disappear over the Indian Ocean and as night falls, stare up at the Milky Way and a canopy of stars stretching across the southern night skies.
