Mahu Whenua, New Zealand’s largest private conservation, sits atop a ridge with staggering views over the majestic landscape over South Island’s Wanaka Lake. There are endless spaces to unwind: a sprawling farmhouse kitchen, large open living room with uninterrupted views, dining room, billiards room, library and media and games room. There are various activities available on-site or nearby at Wanaka, Queenstown, Fiordland National Park or Mt Aspiring National Park. Horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, yoga, spa services, fishing, cooking courses and even heli-skiing are all at your disposal.
As an eco-sanctuary, you may also take a conservation tour and learn about farming practices and the native plant and bird projects being undertaken on the property. Mahu Whenua has an active tree-planting programme and has planted over 1.5 million native trees, including over 22,000 Manuka trees to encourage bees.
