Beginning life in 1925 as a bishop’s residence, Pihopa Retreat has witnessed almost 100 years of transformation in Nelson. One thing that has remained consistent during this time, however, is the arresting scenery surrounding the Nelson Tasman region. With three breathtaking national parks right on the doorstep as well as a plethora of golden beaches and tranquil vineyards, few places offer a better insight into the South Island’s utterly stunning and diverse landscapes than here.
The lodge’s six luxury suites are nestled amongst five hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens, with some of the trees here as old as the property itself. All suites boast tempting jacuzzi baths and a peaceful outdoor space to unwind, while four suites offer commodious indoor living areas. The Hilliard Suite is undoubtedly the cream of the crop with the most spacious rooms and views of both Nelson City and the shimmering Tasman Bay beyond.
