In the 16th Century, when Sir Francis Drake first sailed the waters of the Caribbean islands, he and his fellow crew onboard the Golden Hind must have been awestruck by this tropical paradise, so far removed from the cold and blustery Atlantic shores of home.
Trans-Atlantic travel has largely improved since then, but the mesmerising wonder for any visitor to this glorious region remains.
On the island of Tortola, the capital of the British Virgin islands, is a private 42-acre estate, known as Nora Hazel Point. At its heart is the eponymous Nora Hazel House, a spacious 6-bedroom private villa, comfortably sleeping up to 12 guests, with views over leafy mangrove hillsides to the beaches lining Drake’s Channel.
The estate features a second property, Osprey House, which sleeps up to 10 guests and can be renting together with Nora Hazel House to accommodate groups of up to 22 guests.
Six ensuite bedrooms, large reception rooms and a modern, state-of-the-art kitchen, provide accommodation of a very high standard throughout. An open-plan layout with retractable floor-to-ceiling windows and doors, allow a welcome Caribbean breeze to flow through the property.
A lovely staff is on site to assist guests throughout their stay. Housekeepers and gardeners ensure presentation is on-point, while a kitchen team is on hand to prepare delicious meals throughout the day.
Facilities include a large solar heated infinity pool, surrounded with sun loungers, terraces and shaded dining areas.
Water sports, including kitesurfing, sailing, snorkelling, and diving are all popular activities in the BVIs, and a welcoming house manager is on-hand to assist with all arrangements, including day trips, boat charters and island excursions.
WHY WE LIKE IT: A superb, contemporary property with service at its heart, the perfect spot from which to explore the British Virgin Islands
