The labyrinthine cobbled streets which maze through Mykonos town were designed to disorientate potential marauders. The effect is not lost, although today around each turn visitors are more likely to encounter flashes of bougainvillea, a darting cat, or a lively restaurant terrace.
Perfectly sheltered on a hillside in the smart Agios Stephanos district, the five-bedroom Villa Mari has views across the Aegean Sea to the old town of Mykonos, known as the chora, a 10-minute taxi drive away. Such dreamy views through the day's heat haze are arguably eclipsed only at night, when the lights of the town twinkle on the horizon in the warm summer breeze.
