In 1933, aged just 18, the British author Patrick Leigh Fermor decided to walk from England to Istanbul. Now considered one of the finest travel writers of his generation, Leigh Fermor’s adventures also saw him play prominent roles for the British Army, and the Cretan resistance during the Second World War. During his travels he discovered and fell in love with Greece, in particular the Mani region, which later became his permanent home.
Villa Mani, designed by Patrick and his wife Joan, today retains much of its original character and style. Built in local stone, the property comprises the main house, a studio-study, and a further guest house, accommodating up to 10 guests in total. There’s a lovely large pool, set amongst olive groves, as well as a small pebble beach and direct sea access.
