Nothing signals your arrival in Puglia quite like the iconic sight of a trullo, the conical building found in this southern area of Italy. Built before any knowledge of cement, the thick white-daubed stone walls were designed to ensure coolness in the summer and warmth in the winter. The roof was often decorated with painted symbols with a religious or superstitious significance. Many trulli have today been converted into summer houses, oozing with charm and incredible outdoor areas.
Located in the Itria Valley, Trulli Lucia features spectacular views over the surrounding orchards and olive groves as well as the charming town of Cisternino, preserved almost intact for centuries. Pleasant to visit at any time, there is something undeniably magical on a summer's evening to be amongst the locals on their passeggiata and to enjoy a café or a gelato in the bustling piazza.
