More view with a room than room with a view, Juvet Landskapshotell’s seven glass-walled cube suites were built around the trees, boulders and river running through Norway’s Valldal ravine. With their absolutely minimalist design, darkened interiors and only the essentials in the way of furniture, there is little distraction from the woodland panoramas afforded by their floor-to-ceiling windows – quite as it should be.
As part of the hotel’s commitment to making the lowest possible environmental impact, two compact log houses sit higher up the gorge, raised on stilts like birdhouses. Further rooms are housed in a restored farmhouse, mountain cabin, millhouse and barn, where traditional breakfasts and communal dinners serve seasonal local specialities such as bacalao, a salted cod stew. And down by the gently flowing river, a secluded spa and outdoor bathing spot promises total relaxation.
