With views of its namesake fjord on one side and Sunnmøre Alp forest on the other, Storfjord Hotel is a boutique combination of rustic charm and contemporary Scandinavian chic. Minimalist four-posters are offset by tweed throws; neutral furnishings complemented by blazing fireplaces. After days of fresh air-fuelled activity or peaceful relaxation, four-course dinners finished with local cheeses and Storfjordbrygg ale await in the open-plan kitchen or dining room.
The Alpine log cabin was built using a traditional technique – lafta – that involves cross logging whole timbers, and most rooms make the most of their mountainside setting with balconies or terraces. There’s a wonderfully welcoming intimacy here – as if staying at an old friend’s secret Norwegian haven.
