When it comes to state-of-the-art health retreats, SHA Wellness is hard to beat. Not only that, it's an easy, short haul flight from the UK yet benefits from a sunny, Mediterranean climate.
TREATMENTS AND ACTIVITIES
Initial health consultations take place with a nurse, who will carry out a bio-impedance test to measure your body's fat, muscle and water ratios as well as height and weight. You'll then see the anti-aging doctor, for anti-aging is the main aim here, to learn what can be done to improve your chances of a long and healthy life. A programme will then be devised for you personally.
There is also a weekly schedule of complimentary group activities including: Nordic and power walking, cooking classes, Pilates, yoga, aqua fitness and Spanish lessons.
PRACTITIONERS
There is a whole raft of highly qualified staff here to measure and treat whatever aspect of your health you feel needs addressing including psychologists, GPs and osteopaths. Energy levels and flow can be measured and hair can be analysed and encouraged to grow more fulsomely. There seems little they cannot investigate.
FACILITIES
Staying at SHA is like checking in to the most exclusive private health unit without the clinical overtones. The whole resort is built according to Feng Shui philosophy creating a perfectly aligned and smooth-running environment that leaves guests free from worry and fully able concentrate on getting the maximum benefit from their stay.
The spa wing is extensive and slickly facilitated by a team of receptionists. As well as the many treatment rooms it houses a well-equipped gym staffed by personal trainers.
In their free time guests can enjoy the rooftop pool and sunbathing deck, watch a film in the in-house cinema or take a walk into Albir.
SLEEPING
All suites are light, airy and neutrally-decorated and even the most modest are spacious and luxurious. Deluxe Suites are a generous 70sqm while Superior and Grande Suites come in at 110 and 120sqm respectively. If travelling with family or friends you may want to consider the Presidential or Royal Suites, each of which has two bedrooms.
EATING
During your initial consultations you will see a dietitian, who will prescribe one of three diets of varying strictness, all of which are served in the rooftop SHAMADI Restaurant, delightfully presented over two or three courses. The menus here follow healthy nutrition principles so be ready for plenty of fish and vegetables and no dairy products.
