The main house contains 46 rooms and suites, many boasting fireplaces and some featuring hot tubs on private terraces. Self-contained luxury accommodation is on offer at Spring Cottage, a stunning three-bedroom private house nestled on the banks of the River Thames. Behind the walled garden, among the lavender bushes and fragrant roses, lies the spa offering an oasis of calm for true relaxation and well-being. Here one finds an indoor and outdoor pool as well as a gym and seven treatment rooms, a sauna and steam room plus one indoor and two outdoor tennis courts. The spa also has its own kitchen for healthy meals and indulgent cocktails by the pool.
Award-winning modern British cuisine is served in The Cliveden Dining Room and more casual dining is found at the Equestrian-themed Astor Grill, located in the stable block. Legendary Afternoon Teas are served in the Great Hall on Sundays and The Cliveden Dining Room on other days.
Cliveden hit the headlines in the early 60’s when two house parties collided by the swimming pool; Viscount Astor’s party included John Profumo, then the Secretary of State for War, and Stephen Ward, the resident osteopath who lived in Spring Cottage invited Christine Keeler. Profumo and Keeler began a three-month affair which later ended in Profumo’s resignation and the downfall of the Macmillan government.
