As the name might suggest, Casa Turquesa - meaning turquoise house - is one of Paraty’s most vibrant places to stay. Restored by renowned architect Renato Tavolaro, this 18th-century mansion in Paraty's historic centre now houses nine unique suites, each themed around a different hue. From the Turquoise Suite, decorated with works by French artist Jacques Rey, to the wood-panelled Brown Suite, adorned with colourful paintings of parakeets and macaws by artist and botanist Margaret Mee, every space overflows with personality and carefully considered style - plus luxurious features like big, canopied beds and high-pressure rain showers. The hotel's public areas are just as kaleidoscopic, with comfy leather sofas in vivid shades of blue and green and an azure pool fringed with tropical vegetation where you can relax with a drink and cool off after a day of exploration.
