Between the Casablanca and San Antonio valleys, Matetic's organic and biodynamic wines are wonderfully showcased at La Casona, a boutique vineyard hotel. Five hectares are at the behest of a remodelled 20th-century colonial property, where ten homely guest rooms decorated in charming white wood and local fabrics lead off from picturesque gardens and stone-clad walkways. The building's traditional yellow and terracotta structure lies low between a lake, vineyard and working farm (from which the occasional goose might be found wandering the grounds), providing days of outdoor exploration and informative tours.
Later, a dip in the outdoor pool or relaxing in gardens and terraces might be just the ticket, or gathering around the poolside firepit before dining on local slow food at the lakeside restaurant, accompanied by superbly matched wines. Expect a friendly and utterly tranquil sojourn on this gloriously rustic estate.
