This elegant grande dame on Cartagena's picturesque Plaza San Diego is often the centrepiece of the city's many film festivals and art fairs; it is here that famed Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez's masterpiece Love and Other Demons was set. The converted 16th-century convent building is filled with historical relics; original beams, marble archways, hidden crypts and authentic confession pews, while rooms blend Colombian flair with French elegance.
Santa Clara offers distant views of the sparkling waters of Colombia’s Caribbean coast, with its suites echoing this with their tropical inspired décor. Take the Amaral Suite which, boasts mesmerising views of the Caribbean Sea from its expansive terrace; the Enrique Grau Suite with its colourful palette and distinctive sculpture centrepiece; or the Suite Legend with its pristine white interiors and original artwork from Ana Mercedes Hoyos. In fact, very few rooms and suites within the hotel are the same due to the nature of the building, which features a more modern 'Republican Era' wing in addition to the original colonial wing and cloistered courtyard.
