Day 1 Arrive Lima
You will be met on arrival and escorted to the airport hotel to avoid any extra travelling (day time flight from the UK or US is recommended).

Day 2 The Sacred Valley
Walk back to the airport terminal for the flight to Cusco, where you will be met and driven to your hotel; en route, there will be plenty of photo opportunities. Lunch will be a buffet at the Wayra restaurant, which also has stables and a Peruvian Paso Horse display. Spend the late afternoon and evening at leisure.

Day 3 The Sacred Valley
Follow a dirt road from the door of your lodge for a beautiful trip along the River Urubamba. Travelling slowly is the perfect way to appreciate the beauty of this traditional agricultural area. Vibrant fields of corn, kiwicha and quinoa line your route towards the small town of Pisac, where you will have your lunch before exploring the Inca ruins.

Day 4 The Sacred Valley
A day of variety awaits. A 40 minute drive takes you to the shores of Lake Piuray, which is set amongst fields of corn with fantastic views out to the snow-capped Urubamba Mountains.You will help prepare a Pachamanca, a very traditional Peruvian meal where meat and vegetables are cooked on hot stones in a hole in the ground. Once the food is cooking, you can enjoy some fun on the water with the world's highest fleet of stand-up paddleboards. Enjoy your well-deserved lunch and visit the salt pans at Maras before you are driven back to your hotel.

Day 5 Machu Picchu
After an early breakfast you will be taken to the Inca Trail for a day's hike to Machu Picchu. The hike will take you through Inca terraces and verdant rainforest, up and down stone Inca paths via the ruins at Winay Wayna where you will have a picnic. Arrive at the iconic site of Machu Picchu late afternoon and explore in more depth the following day after dinner and a good night's sleep.

Day 6 Cusco
An early start will allow you time for a private guided tour at Machu Picchu before the crowds arrive from the train. Afterwards, there's time to explore the ruins for yourself - a good chance for photographs - and, if you wish, we can organise the permit to climb Huayna Picchu for a truly spectacular view over the site (but not for the faint-hearted!). The Vistadome train (or upgrade to the luxurious Hiram Bingham) will take you back to Cusco, where you will be met and driven to your hotel located in the atmospheric historic centre.

Day 7 Cusco
After a leisurely breakfast you will be collected for the 15 minute journey to the Inca fortress at Sacsayhuaman, which reveals a spectacular view of the city. Return to Cusco for lunch and in the afternoon visit a chocolate workshop to make your very own bar of Peruvian chocolate.

Day 8 Cusco
Back to the action...today you will ride gentle rapids on the Pinipampa River (ideal for beginners) in your own inflatable canoe. Lunch will be at a local village restaurant followed by a visit to feed llamas and alpacas and learn how their wool has traditionally been woven and dyed. Return to Cusco mid to late afternoon.

Day 9 Amazon Rainforest
Transfer to the airport for the short flight to Puerto Maldonado. On arrival, you will met by the staff from your lodge and taken to the river for the journey in motorised dugout canoes to the most comfortable jungle lodge in this part of the Peruvian Amazon. You will have a briefing on arrival as to the many activities that you can enjoy in the rainforest.

Day 10 Amazon Rainforest
Explore the jungle trails and hanging bridges, canoe through the smaller tributaries spotting birds, monkeys, invertebrates and Cayman. A boat ride and hike will take you to Lake Sandoval to spot the family of Giant River Otters. There is also the chance to sleep in the tree house, high in the canopy, accessed by swinging bridges.

Day 11 Depart
Return by boat to Puerto Maldonado and to the airport for the flight to Lima via Cusco and onward international connections.
